Brendan Wood, Chairman of Brendan Wood International, commented, The TopGun portfolio managers and buy-side analysts were selected by their counterparties because they inspire and influence the investment community to deeper levels of investment wisdom. The results, according to our Panel, amplify the importance of collaboration, inspiration, hard analytical work and integrity in the critical relationship between buy-side managers and analysts and their sell-side counterparties. This quality of communication uproots essential findings which help establish shareholder confidence in organizations who deserve it and likewise expose the weaker suits of investment targets at the lower end of the Brendan Wood Shareholder Confidence Index.

BWI's Partner in charge of Canada, Stewart Borden, commented, Canadian sell-side analysts work countless hours throughout the year to advance the knowledge and investment insight of their portfolio management clients. Portfolio managers at Canada's largest asset management firms are a world class audience, many as well versed on world markets as they are on the Canadian domestic scene. Not easily impressed, Canada's all star analysts fight the good fight for the approval of this sophisticated big league investment clientele. It's great that, once a year, BWI is invited to turn the tables and ask the Brendan Wood Panel of Canada's leading sell-side analysts to nominate the portfolio managers who inspire them most and influence them at the deeper levels of investment analysis. The results amplify the importance of collaboration, inspiration and integrity in the critical relationship between portfolio managers and sell-side analysts in uprooting essential findings which help establish shareholder confidence in companies which deserve it.
TOPGUN PORTFOLIO MANAGERS

The universe of portfolio managers is large and diverse, making the selection of TopGun Portfolio Managers complex. Most often, Portfolio Managers are singled out for performance alone, and while a solid track record is essential, it fails to recognize the importance of other criteria that are also important in the long term.

TopGun Portfolio Managers appear to have the ability to predict the future. And they are often paid royally for that talent. But it isn't magic but a lot of hard work, discipline and experience that produces results. TopGun Portfolio Managers are those with exceptional performance and a track record of excellence.

Approximately 500 sell-side analysts select their TopGun Portfolio Managers whom they rank as true leaders. In making their selection, analysts used performance as well as Portfolio Managers' best approach to investing, receptivity to new ideas and creativity. The Brendan Wood Panel continues to place considerable importance on the views of analysts. They are valued panelists in nominating Portfolio Managers because:
- They know the Portfolio Managers as individuals through daily contact.
- They know how Portfolio Managers think.
- They see the results of Portfolio Managers' investment process including why they buy and sell stocks; how they reason; how they plan; how deeply they think and the effectiveness of their investment philosophy.
- Analysts have a unique window into Portfolio Managers' philosophies and investment disciplines.
- Analysts are closest to the market results of Portfolio Managers and can see through the superficialities of short-term performance. They can separate Portfolio Managers' luck from skill and wisdom/discipline from lucky punches.
